Telemedicine Q & A

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine allows you to get mental health services without going to the office. This innovative approach accommodates your life by eliminating the time spent traveling, avoiding the need for childcare, and offering a solution to other challenges that make it hard to keep appointments.

You can also take advantage of telemedicine if you simply prefer to meet with your Sage Mental Wellness therapist from the comfort of home. No matter why you want to use this service, you can conveniently connect with your therapist via videoconferencing using your computer, tablet, or smartphone.

What services can I get through telemedicine?

You can get nearly all the same services through telemedicine as you would at the office.

Initial consultation and psychiatric assessment

New patients can have their first appointment through telemedicine. You complete the appropriate forms for your medical and insurance information, and then your therapist schedules a time for your appointment.

Your telemedicine videoconference is just like being in the office with your therapist. They review your medical history, learn about your symptoms, and complete a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation. Then you work with your therapist to create a treatment plan.

Medication management

The Sage Mental Wellness team prescribes medications through telemedicine appointments. Then, they send the prescription to your preferred pharmacy. You can also schedule follow-up medication management appointments via teleconferencing.

However, there is one exception. Sage Mental Wellness offers ketamine for treatment-resistant depression. They must give you ketamine in the office so they can monitor for side effects.

Psychotherapy

The team has extensive experience in many types of psychotherapy, allowing them to customize your treatment.

Does insurance pay for telemedicine?

Private insurers, Medicaid, and Medicare, pay for telemedicine, covering your services the same as if you were in the office. If there are in-person services your insurance doesn’t cover, they won’t pay for them through telemedicine. Be sure to check with your insurance provider to verify what they will cover.

How do I access telemedicine?

Before scheduling a telemedicine appointment, you’ll need to register online. If you have any questions, connect with Sage Mental Wellness, and they’ll give you the information you need to set up your appointment.

If you’re ready to take advantage of the convenience of telemedicine, call Sage Mental Wellness or book an appointment online today.
